Toronto

(My kind of town, eh?)

Skyline view from the Toronto Island Ferry.

It's my favorite city in the world (at least the limited part of the world I've seen), and here are a few links to the things I like. . .

General Info

Great Food

  • Lick's -- really good burgers and the songs are free.

  • Pier 4 Restaurant -- The best French Onion Soup I've ever had.

  • Hot Dog Vendors -- cheap and good -- a winning combo.

  • Monsoon -- fusion cuisine and excellent design.

Great Music

  • HMV -- A killer store on Yonge Street..

  • NXNE -- an independent music fest in the vein of Austin's famous SXSW.

  • Edge 102 -- one of my favorite radio stations. My main music source during the dissertation process. Alt-rock.

  • CBC -- great news, and lots of music (esp. on Radio 2) that you might not know.

Great Newspapers

Great Transportation

Great Museums

  • Royal Ontario Museum -- from Chinese tombs to dinosaur bones, a first-class museum in the grand tradition. Super traveling exhibits as well.

  • Art Gallery of Ontario -- Lots of Canadiana, and always a cool traveling exhibit or two.

Great Hangouts

  • The Rivoli -- a restaurant and bar that once was home to the Kids In the Hall, and still hosts alt-comedy nights. Also the home of excellent burgers.

  • The Horseshoe Tavern -- a legendary place for live music.
