SUMMERLAND HONORS PROGRAM |
SUMMERLAND HONORS COURSES AND
THE NEWBERRY COLLEGE CORE CURRICULUM
All students, regardless of their major, must complete the Newberry College Core Curriculum, which is currently 52-53 credit hours. The college faculty have agreed that most of the Summerland Honors Program courses may fulfill some Core requirements. This reduces the number of "extra" courses honors students need to take. In fact, Summerland Honors students have fewer hours of Core requirements to complete (50-51 credit hours). The only exception to this are for students who may need to take Core courses as part of their major. For example, history majors still need to take 100-level history courses and English majors still need to take 200-level literature courses.
Three areas of the Core are listed below represent the new (2005) Core listings; these are the areas for which Honors courses fulfill Core requirements. Please note these as you consider classes for future semesters. For the courses listed below, the three-letter codes are the standard abbreviations for curricular listings; check your catalog for details. Students who started prior to 2005 have the same requirements, they are just listed under different heading letters.
