CHINQUAPIN
Chinquapin is the Newsletter of the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society and is published four times a year. In its 15th year of publication (2007), it has become an extremely important means of communication with and for the members. It carries sections on letters to the editor, endowment news, wild ideas, botanical gardens, notes on specific plants, botanical excursions and other topics.
The name Chinquapin is the Indian name for Castanea pumila (L) Miller, the dwarf chestnut, a smaller member of the genus Castanea inhabiting dry woods and thickets.
