REVIEW - LAB QUIZ 2

REMEMBER: The emphasis of the lab quiz will be in identification of structures or organisms. Each station will have something for you to look at, either alone or on a microscope.

SEEDLESS VASCULAR PLANTS

Name a plant to Division (Lycophyta or Polypodiophyta)

Lycopodium specimens: rhizome, microphyll, dichotomous branching, strobilus

Lycopodium stem x.s.: vascular bundle, cortex

Lycopodium strobilus l.s.: sporangia, spores, homosporous

fern vegetative morphology: rhizome, frond, pinnae, sorus

fern prothallus: antheridia, archegonia, rhizoids

fern frond with sporangia: annulus, sporangia, spores

GYMNOSPERMS

Recognize material to Division: Coniferophyta and Ginkgophyta

Pines – Be able to recognize the following structures:
fascicle, needle, staminate cone, ovulate cone (1st and 2nd year)
Staminate cone slide: microsporophyll, microspore, pollen
Ovulate cone slide: ovuliferous bract, scale, ovule
from cones determine when pollination and fertilization have occurred

     Saprolegnia slide: oogonia, zoosporangium, hyphae

Culture and slide of Rhizopus: asexual structure
     sexual reproduction: structures and process

Cup fungi: sexual process & structures; how many spores per ascus?

Club fungi: sexual process & structures; mushroom anatomy

Lichens: What organisms are commonly included in lichens?
recognize the types on the slide
