Nature at its best in Newberry County, South Carolina
ANIMAL DIVERSITY OF
LYNCH'S WOODS PARK
A wide variety of animals live within Lynch's Woods. Unlike plants, animals have the ability to move, so some species will not be present year round. Species can be categorized as year round residents, migratory (especially birds), or as visitors.
At the broadest level, animals can be categorized as Invertebrates (lacking a backbone) or Vertebrates (with a backbone). By far, the vertebrates have been better studied and documented. Below are listed the various major groups of animals that have been seen in Lynch's Woods. Underlined group names have been surveyed to the point that a list has been generated and you can click on the highlighted word to see a list and read some commentary. Please contact Dr. Charles Horn (e-mail: charles.horn@newberry.edu) if you have seen an animal not listed OR, you some expertise and would like to help with a zoological survey of the park.
