Nature at its best in Newberry County, South Carolina
LYNCH'S WOODS PARK
SEASONS IN THE PARK - OCTOBER
GIRL SCOUTS WORK TO REVITALIZE CAMP HOLLY SPRING

Camp Holly Springs was created for use by Girl Scouts shortly after Lynch's Woods was first developed.  The camp has historically been a great place for people to camp out and learn about nature.  During the last few years, Camp Holly Springs has fallen into disrepair.  Senior Girl Scouts of Troop 930 have taken on the repair of the camp for the benefit of our community and this is their Gold Award project (the highest honor a Senior Girl Scout can earn).

Pictures below: The original "Holly Spring" at the camp; water still flows out of the spring (left) and the girls scouts (right), left to right: Amanda Butler, Katie Corbett, and Brandy Blanton.

Some logs present at Camp Holly Springs as a result of fallen dead trees; these trees will be removed, either to produce trail margins or for mulch. You can also see in the picture to the right much overgrowth of vegeation.  This consists of weedy privit, sweet gum and silverthorn olive.

Work on the project has already started and should be completed by next summer (June 2009).  Below pictures: The result of work on October 18 has been the removal from weedy vegeation for one area (picture to right) and movement to create a brush pile (photo to left).  The brush pile will provide habitat for birds as the material decomposes.
