Nature at its best in Newberry County, South Carolina
CHECKLIST OF BIRDS REPORTED
FROM LYNCH'S WOODS PARK
list compiled by Bill Hilton, Jr. (Newberry College alumnus, 1970)

A total of 95 bird species from 33 families have been reported from Lynch's Woods as of 27 March 2009.  Thanks to the following for sharing their sightings:  David Armstrong, Donna Slyce Bailey, Robin Carter, Tom Deely, Nathan Dias, Caroline Eastman, Bill Hilton Jr., Judy Hurley, Tim & Melanie Kalbach, Steven Tracey, Patricia Voelker, and the Columbia (SC) Audubon Society and South Carolina Association of Naturalists (SCAN).

Of particular interest are the SEVEN species of woodpeckers--a group that requires mature live trees AND dead-standing snags. Observers also report 23 species of warblers that, in general, need diverse habitats and--especially in migration--large hardwood and pine trees and mature shrubs from which to glean insects.
