COLLECTION SITES FOR FIELD TRIPS - FALL 2010

Note on sites:
     For plant collections an exact site description is needed, as below.
     For insect collections a general location is all that can be fit on the small labels (eg. SC 121, S of Newberry, SC, 6 Sept 06)

September 1 - next to cemetery and BB field

For plants:  Newberry County, South Carolina:  Area adjacent to Rosemont Cemetery and Newberry College baseball field; to east of junction of College Street and Smith Road.  North of downtown Newberry.

September 8 & 10 - Dr. Horn's field
For plants:  Newberry County, South Carolina: Field along Smith Road about 0.1 mi south of US 76.  North of downtown Newberry.
For insects: Smith Road, Newberry Co., SC

September 13 & 15 - Lynch's Woods

For plants:  Newberry County, South Carolina: Lynch’s Woods Park.  Off of US 76, 0.7 mi southeast of jct with SC 219.  Ca. 1.5 mi east of downtown Newberry.

For insects:  Lynch's Woods, Newberry Co., SC

September 22 - Liza's farm

For plants:  Newberry County, South Carolina:  Farm at end of Cherry Vale Road, about 1.2 miles south of US 76 via Gable Hill Road.  Ca. 11 miles northwest of Newberry.

For insects:  Kinards, Newberry Co., SC

September 29 - Dr. Horn's field
For plants:  Newberry County, South Carolina: Field along Smith Road about 0.1 mi south of US 76.  North of downtown Newberry.
For insects: Smith Road, Newberry Co., SC

October 6 - Lake Murray

For Plants:  Newberry County.  Lake Murray at end of Couty route 26, Macedonia Church.  About 17 miles southeast of Newberry.

For Insects:  Lake Murray, Newberry Co., SC

October 13 - Saluda River

Stop #1 - at river

  For Plants:  Newberry County, South Carolina.  SC 121 at boat ramp, Saluda River.  About 9 miles southwest of Newberry.

  For Insects: Saluda River at SC 121, Newberry Co., SC

Stop #2 - powerline cut

  For Plants: Newberry County, South Carolina.  Powerline cut along SC 121 just north of Bush River.  About 3 miles southwest of Newberry.

  For Insects: 2 miles S of town, Newberry Co., SC

October 14 - Sumter National Forest

Stop #1 - Molly's Rock pond

  For Plants:  Newberry County, South Carolina.  Molly's Rock Picnic Area off of US 176. Sumter National Forest.  About 9 miles north of Newberry

  For Insects: Molly's Rock, Newberry Co., SC

Stop #2 - priarie project site

  For Plants: Newberry County, South Carolina.  Prarie restoration area east of SC 121 at County route 36.  Sumter National Forest.  About 11 miles north of Newberry.

  For Insects: Sumter National Forest, Newberry Co., SC

Stop #3 - Indian Creek (beetles and camphor weed)

  For Plants: Newberry County, South Carolina.  Floodplain of Indian Creek along Monument Road between County Routes 481 and 36, 3.5 miles north of route 481. About 11 miles north of Newberry.

  For Insects: Indian Creek, Newberry Co., SC

October 27 - Sumter National Forest, Union County

For plants:  Union County, South Carolina.  Sedalia Lake at end of Sumter National Forest road 347N; off of County route 18.  Headwaters of Johns Creek.  About 10 miles SW of Union.
